Tottenham - Close to losing at home

Picked up points after Bergvall's substitute appearance

Tottenham looked set to lose points at home. But a late goal from Heung-min Son secured a point for Spurs.

– I am still very disappointed, Son tells Sky Sports.

Tottenham lined up without Swedish players in the starting eleven for Sunday's meeting with Bournemouth.

Lucas Bergvall, who scored an own goal in the week's match against AZ Alkmaar, started on the bench. Meanwhile, Dejan Kulusevski was missing due to a foot injury. After the break, Bergvall was substituted in and saw his team recover from a 0–2 deficit to share the points.

– It's frustrating not to take all three points at home. Bournemouth is a really good team, but our performance wasn't good enough, says Heung-min Son.

Bournemouth took the lead just before the break.

Left-back Milos Kerkez delivered a precise cross to Marcus Tavernier at the far post, who easily directed it to make it 1–0. In the second half, the visitors increased their lead through Evanilson, but Tottenham quickly responded. Bergvall set up Pape Sarr, whose failed cross found its way into the goal via the post – the same post that Bergvall himself hit just before.

Tottenham looked to be heading for a loss, but in the final minutes, Heung-min Son was brought down in the penalty area and confidently converted the penalty. Tottenham is now in 13th place in the Premier League, while Bournemouth is eighth.

– When confidence falters, you do things you normally wouldn't do. We have to be strong as an important match awaits, says Son.

On Thursday, Tottenham meets AZ Alkmaar in the return leg of the Europa League knockout stage. The first meeting ended with a 0–1 loss.
