Michail Antonio injured in car accident

West Ham striker Michail Antonio has undergone surgery after being involved in a car accident.

Premier League player is now expected to be out of football for over a year, according to reports from The Guardian. The English-Jamaican has made 268 appearances in the Premier League, and was born in 1990.


The accident occurred on Saturday, and on Sunday, the London club announced that Antonio had been operated on. In a statement, the club expressed its support for the striker: "Everyone at the club wishes Michail a speedy recovery and would like to thank the football family for their great support," wrote West Ham on the platform X.


Antonio suffered a leg fracture in the accident, and The Guardian reports that the rehabilitation could take over a year.


Meanwhile, The Sun reports Antonio's first reaction after the crash. According to witnesses on the scene, he asked confusedly: "Where am I? What's happening? Whose car am I in?"


Antonio will stay in the hospital for the coming days for observation. After that, a long rehabilitation period awaits before he can return to football.


Michail Antonio, who joined West Ham from Nottingham Forest in 2015, has so far scored 83 goals and provided 41 assists in 323 appearances for the club.
