Ballon d'Or winner 2024

Rodri, Manchester City was awarded the Ballon d'Or in the men's category and Aitana Bonmati, Barcelona in the women's category.

- It's a very special day for me, my family, and my country, says Spaniard Rodri to BBC after he was yesterday named the world's best football player of 2024.

The gala was held on Monday in France at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Here, the award for the world's best football player is given, and it is presented by the French football magazine France Football. Last year, Lionel Messi was awarded the prestigious prize on the men's side, and this time many believed in Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior. 

According to sources, Vinicius Junior was sure he would not win the award, despite his great successes last year. He chose not to be present during the evening.

Rodri is currently injured, but he was part of Manchester City when they won the Premier League last season. Vinicius Junior came in second place, followed by Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal in fourth place. Erling Braut Haaland came in fifth place.

"Kopa Trophy" (world's best male player under 21): Lamine Yamal, Barcelona.

"Yashin Trophy" (world's best male goalkeeper): Emiliano Martinez, Aston Villa. 

Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane shared the Gerd Müller prize with 52 goals in total last season.
