Tottenham - Close to Losing at Home
Picked up points after Bergvall's substitution
Tottenham seemed to be on the verge of losing points at home. However, a late goal from Heung-min Son secured a point for Spurs.
– I'm still very disappointed, says Son to Sky Sports.
Tottenham lined up without Swedish players in the starting eleven for Sunday's meeting with Bournemouth.
Lucas Bergvall, who scored an own goal in this week's match against AZ Alkmaar, started on the bench. Meanwhile, Dejan Kulusevski was missing due to a foot injury. After the break, Bergvall was substituted in and saw his team recover from a 0–2 deficit to share the points.
– It's frustrating not to take all three points at home. Bournemouth is a really good team, but our performance was not good enough, says Heung-min Son.
Bournemouth took the lead just before the half-time break.
Left-back Milos Kerkez delivered an accurate cross to Marcus Tavernier at the far post, who easily steered in 1–0. In the second half, the visitors increased their lead through Evanilson, but Tottenham responded quickly. Bergvall assisted Pape Sarr, whose failed cross found its way into the goal via the post – the same post that Bergvall himself had hit shortly before.
Tottenham looked to be heading for a loss, but in the final minutes, Heung-min Son was brought down in the penalty area and converted the penalty confidently. Tottenham is now in 13th place in Premier League, while Bournemouth is eighth.
– When confidence falters, you do things you normally wouldn't do. We need to be strong as an important match awaits, says Son.
On Thursday, Tottenham meets AZ Alkmaar in the return leg of the Europa League playoffs. The first meeting ended in a 0–1 loss.
