Analysis: How much Premier League ticket prices have increased, Liverpool and Arsenal are the most expensive

The interest of Swedes in the Premier League is very large. And the significant interest is global each round attracts millions of TV viewers all over the world, and the stadiums in England are often sold out. We have conducted a study that shows how ticket prices have increased sharply over the past few years.

It is primarily the ticket prices of the top teams that have skyrocketed. In 2024, Liverpool had the highest average price at SEK 6,426. Their ticket prices have increased by 161 percent over ten years. In the last five years, Liverpool's prices rose by 74 percent, compared to a 29 percent increase over the last three years.

Second on the list was Arsenal, whose tickets cost an average of SEK 5,546 in 2024. This can be compared with the average ticket price for a home match in 2014, which was SEK 1,855 - this means that the price has risen by 199 percent over ten years. The development in the last five and three years respectively is an increase of 187 and 143 percent.

The team that has had the largest increase in average ticket prices according to the analysis from Ticket2.com is Newcastle, where Swedish Alexander Isak is one of the big stars since he joined the club in 2022. In the last three years, ticket prices have increased by 203 percent. However, one of the big clubs' tickets has become cheaper.

Chelsea has had a tough time sport-wise over the last two seasons, which is also reflected in the ticket prices. Their tickets have become 23 percent cheaper since 2021. Another popular team is Tottenham. The increase in their ticket prices is "only" about ten percent over the last five years, says Dina Junttila, Marketing Manager at Ticket2.com.

Among the other big clubs, Manchester City's tickets have become just over 92 percent more expensive over the last five years, while local rival Manchester United's ticket prices have increased by 81 percent over ten years, but only 13 percent in the last five years. Among other teams, it is the London club Fulham that stands out. Their ticket prices have increased by 91 percent over the last three years.

As a comparison to the development of Premier League ticket prices, one can look at the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and wage structure statistics, both from the Swedish Bureau of Statistics, SCB.

The CPI measures the average price development for the entire private domestic consumption, the prices consumers actually pay. Over the last ten years, the CPI has risen by just under 29 percent. The development over the last five years is 20.7 percent.

The wage structure statistics, which measure the average annual salary in Sweden, show that the average salary has risen by just over 7.5 percent over the last three years, and 13 and 27 percent over five and ten years respectively.

The prices of tickets in the Premier League have gone up in line with inflation, and player salaries have increased a lot. What is good to keep in mind when buying football tickets is that prices are generally lower at the beginning of the season, then the tickets go up in price. But no matter how much the trip costs, many of our customers say that it has been an unforgettable experience to see a match in the Premier League, especially between the top teams, says Dina Junttila.

According to Google searches, there is the greatest interest in finding tickets for Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal. Every month, there are on average just over 700 googlings on "Manchester United ticket" and 390 searches on "Liverpool ticket".
